Canyoning FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most about our Basic and Extreme canyoning tours in the Cetina canyon. Can’t find yours? Message us on WhatsApp.

Getting there

How do we get to the start of the tour?

We meet in Omiš city centre and drive together for about 30 minutes to our base camp in the village of Zadvarje. If you have your own car, you can come straight to the base camp.

About the tour

What is the difference between Basic and Extreme canyoning?

Both tours take place in the same part of the canyon. Extreme canyoning adds one rappel: our guides lower you on a rope using alpine equipment. The rappel is next to the waterfall, at a height of 55 m.

Can we mix Basic and Extreme canyoning in one group?

Yes. If someone in your group doesn’t feel ready for Extreme, they can do Basic. The Extreme group goes down the rope while the Basic group takes a walking path around it. You meet again after 15–20 minutes and continue together to the end.

Are the cliff jumps obligatory?

No. All cliff jumps are optional, and you can easily walk around each one.

What is the water temperature?

The river is 15–17 °C (59–63 °F) early in the season and reaches about 20 °C (68 °F) in late July and August.

Can I book a private canyoning tour?

Yes, on request. The price depends on the size of your group and the time of the season, so message us on WhatsApp at +385 91 256 6422 or email dalmaretravel@gmail.com for a quote.

Who can join

Do I need previous experience?

No. Most of our guests are doing canyoning for the first time.

What is the minimum age?

The minimum age is 10 for Basic canyoning and 14 for Extreme canyoning. Our guides may refuse anyone they believe cannot do the activity safely.

What fitness level do I need?

Basic fitness is enough. On a scale from 1 to 5, canyoning is a 2–3.

Do I need to be able to swim?

No. Your wetsuit and life vest keep you afloat, and the guides help you along the way. If you have a strong fear of water, tell the guides before the tour, or think about whether this tour is right for you.

Can I book as a solo traveller?

Yes. We have departures from Omiš every day. The minimum group is 2 people, so on rare occasions early in the season we may have to cancel if no one else has booked.

I have a medical condition or take medication. What should I do?

Tell our guides about any medical condition before the tour. You can speak to them privately. If you need medication during the tour, such as an asthma inhaler, give it to the guides. They keep it in a waterproof bag and have it ready whenever you need it.

What to bring

What equipment is provided?

We provide a 5 mm full-body wetsuit, helmet, life vest and a harness with wetsuit protection. Please bring your own sports shoes or hiking trainers, not beach shoes. If you don’t have suitable shoes, you can rent a pair from us, but we have a limited number.

What should I bring?

A towel, swimsuit, dry clothes to change into after the tour, and sports shoes. Beach shoes and flip-flops are not suitable.

Where do we leave our belongings during the tour?

Your belongings stay locked in our minibus during the tour and are waiting for you at the end.

Can I wear glasses?

You won’t need sunglasses, as most of the canyon is in the shade. If you bring sunglasses or prescription glasses, tie them with a strap so you don’t lose them.

Can I bring a camera?

Yes, as long as it is waterproof.

Are food and drinks included?

No. We suggest a good breakfast before the tour and a snack for afterwards.

Booking and payment

How do I pay for the tour?

If you booked through our website or another booking platform, bring your voucher and give it to the guides at the start of the tour. If you are paying in cash, you pay the guides after the tour. Please bring the exact amount, as there is no ATM in the village.

Weather and safety

What happens if it rains?

We run tours as normal in light rain. In heavy rain or thunderstorms we cancel the tour for safety reasons, and you get a full refund.

What happens if the water level in the canyon is high?

The water level can rise when there are works on the dam upriver. We are usually notified a few days in advance. If this happens, we may cancel the tour, and you get a full refund.

Are alcohol or drugs allowed?

No. Alcohol and drugs are strictly forbidden before and during the tour. Anyone under their influence will not be allowed to take part.

Is canyoning dangerous?

Canyoning is an adventure activity in a river canyon, so some risk is always present. We run every tour to the highest safety standards to keep that risk as low as possible. The most important thing you can do is listen to your guides and follow their instructions.
